43 killed in attack on church in Congo

The death toll from a rebel attack on a church in the Democratic Republic of Congo has risen to 43, the UN Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (UNMISS) said.
Earlier, the Associated Press, citing local authorities, reported that gunmen attacked a Catholic church in the village of Komanda in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to the agency, local authorities blamed the attack on the rebel movement “Alignment for Democratic Forces”.
“According to official reports, at least 43 civilians were killed in an attack by elements of the “Alignment for Democratic Forces”,” the UN mission said in a press release published on its page on the X social network.
The mission expressed deep indignation over the incident and called on the authorities of the Democratic Republic of Congo to investigate and bring those responsible to justice.
