Lavrov: "When European countries finally decide to recognize the state of Palestine, there will be nothing to recognize"
![]() 932 Wednesday, 20 August, 2025, 17:12 Beautiful statements about the intention to recognize Palestine in the near future are being made in the West on the assumption that "there will be nothing to recognize" when they finally decide to do so. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov following talks with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi. The Russian minister recalled the statements of a number of European leaders about their intention to announce recognition of the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly, which is scheduled to take place in the last weeks of September. "When they made these statements, there were two months left before it (the General Assembly). I have a question: if your diplomacy and your foreign policy have come to the conclusion that it is no longer possible to tolerate what is happening and it is necessary to recognize a Palestinian state, why wait two months, why not do it right away," the minister noted. "I have a suspicion that all these beautiful statements about how soon, in a couple of months, we will recognize a Palestinian state, are being made largely based on the diplomatic hope that when it is necessary to fulfill this obligation to recognize Palestine, there will be nothing left to recognize." |
