The President of Azerbaijan, with his speech yesterday, proved that he has no real intentions for peace and is arming himself to be ready for war against Armenia. Below are facts showing that the Azerbaijani authorities continue state-sponsored racism (calling Armenians “evil,” “sick,” and other insults) and expansionist plans against Armenia—openly declaring that they are increasing their military power in order to be prepared for war against Armenia. Meanwhile, in a parallel reality, the Armenian authorities, obsessed with staying in political power, continue to systematically numb our society’s vigilance. the government representative announces that compared to 2025, the expenditures allocated to the Ministry of Defense will decrease. Moreover, authorities’ propagandists, falsifying reality, spread claims that Azerbaijan has abandoned its expansionist “Western Azerbaijan” program, and so on. Here are just a few quotations from yesterday’s speech of the President of Azerbaijan to prove that authorities that speak in this vocabulary has no peaceful intentions towards Armenia: “The most modern unmanned aerial vehicles and new artillery systems have been brought to our country. Contracts have already been signed for new fighter jets, while the existing aircraft have been fully modernized. We must be ready for war at any moment (…) The guarantors of our security are ourselves—the state, the people, and our armed forces.” “We [ed. referring to Armenians] have not done to them what they did to us. But what they did will never be erased from our memory. This includes the war crimes committed against the people of Kalbajar, the genocide, the Khojaly genocide, the hostility and cruelty towards our citizens from other regions—all this will never be erased from our memory, and it should never be erased. I say this both as the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of a victorious country in war and today—as a participant in the peace process with Armenia, with defeated Armenia. (…) That bloody history must never be erased from our memory, we must never be deceived by sweet words, we must remain vigilant. (…) In other words, we must know who we are facing, who our neighbor is. We must never forget our past and must remain vigilant. Today I say this again—we declare ourselves as a victorious people. We will not forget that evil, that barbarism.” These are not my wishes or evaluations—these are facts. And everyone can draw their own conclusion by asking themselves: do these facts describe a state whose authorities have genuine intentions for peace?
