Yesterday, Nikol Pashinyan once again spoke about Nagorno-Karabakh, attempting in vain to justify his catastrophic decisions. For anyone who understands the events of recent years, his words only reaffirm that the sole reason for our losses is Pashinyan’s total and utter incompetence.
His claim that making compromises before the 2020 war would have been more damaging for Armenia is pure nonsense. There is not an iota of doubt that, had Pashinyan pursued necessary compromises before September 2020, thousands of young Armenians would still be alive today. Nagorno-Karabakh and Lachin would remain Armenian, a peace agreement would have been signed, and our borders and communications would now be open. Instead, his reckless words and impulsive diplomacy dragged Armenia into a devastating war and left us with defeat on every front. And to preempt the question, ‘Why didn’t you do it in 2008?,’ I would say that if we had seen the prospect of such a development and, no doubt we would have seen it, we certainly would have taken the appropriate steps.
One can only hope that Pashinyan, until his departure from politics, will refrain from speaking altogether. His words have long been Armenia’s greatest liability, consistently eroding national security and inflicting untold damage. Time and again, his careless statements have strengthened Azerbaijan’s position with disastrous consequences for Armenia. Now, after conceding nearly everything, his remarks are strategically irrelevant. Azerbaijan has achieved its goals and will continue to do so as long as Pashinyan remains in power, regardless of what he says—or doesn’t say. His words now serve only to demoralize a grieving nation, reminding us constantly that all our losses were, in fact, avoidable.
Pashinyan’s incompetence is the root cause of our national tragedy, and his attempts to rewrite history only deepen the wound. At this stage, silence would serve Armenia far better than his endless justifications. Enough is enough
