A retired Navy admiral told CBS News it will take a couple of weeks to get ships in place as the U.S. seeks help reopening the Strait of Hormuz so oil shipping can resume.

"Forcing Iran to not control the Straits of Hormuz is in all Western countries' interest, and Iran has been a bad actor regime," said retired Rear Adm. Mark Montgomery, a regional expert.

President Trump said he's communicating with other nations about lending help to reopen the key waterway.

"We strongly encourage the other nations to get involved with us and get involved quickly and with great enthusiasm," the president said at the White House.
