Macron speaks with US, Iranian leaders, stresses that ceasefire must include Lebanon
![]() 616 Thursday, 09 April, 2026, 10:20 French President Emmanuel Macron says that he spoke with both Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump, and told them their decision to accept a ceasefire was the best possible one. “I expressed my hope that the ceasefire will be fully respected by each of the belligerents, across all areas of confrontation, including in Lebanon,” Macron says in a post on X. He said it was a “necessary condition for the ceasefire to be credible and lasting”. Macron adds that any agreement between the countries must address the concerns raised by Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, as well as its regional policy and its actions obstructing navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. |
