As we previously reported, on July 20, Arayik Harutyunyan submitted his resignation from the post of Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister. Rumors are circulating that he is expected to be appointed President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia (NOCA) in the near future.
It should be recalled that back in April, Arayik Harutyunyan stated that Gagik Tsarukyan would soon turn 70 and therefore would not be eligible to seek the position of the committee's president. Moreover, the Armenian Weightlifting Federation, headed by Harutyunyan, filed a lawsuit seeking the termination of Tsarukyan's powers as president.
Tsarukyan's allies described the move as political retaliation.
