Azerbaijan is working behind the scenes to ease tensions between Israel and Turkey. Israeli sources confirm this. The president of Azerbaijan was the one who initiated direct dialogue between Israel and Turkey a year ago, when an operational coordination mechanism for the two countries in Syria was agreed upon. A source involved in the matter said the Azerbaijanis are very concerned about the tension between Israel and Turkey - both of which are allies of Azerbaijan. The U.S. is also working to reduce tensions, but in Israel there is a distinct mistrust of American envoy Tom Barak.
