175 dead, 476 foreigners missing in flash floods as rescue operations intensify

At least 175 people have been killed, and hundreds more are missing after catastrophic floods swept through towns and valleys along the border between Nepal and China's Tibet region. Officials say the death toll is expected to rise.
Almost 500 foreigners from 28 countries are among those missing in the rugged mountainous region, which is popular with pilgrims and trekkers. They include 177 people from India, 63 from the U.S., 53 from Ukraine, 34 from Australia, 33 from Britain, 28 from Malaysia and 25 from Canada, according to Nepal’s embassy in India.
Chinese officials said three people were dead, two had been rescued and 558 people were missing after a mudslide at a land crossing in Tibet’s Gyirong county, including 260 foreign nationals. It was not immediately clear whether China and Nepal were counting some of the same people.
