Cambodian general killed in shelling on Thai border

Cambodian army Major General Duong Somneang was killed by artillery fire during clashes on the Thai-Cambodian border, the Thai newspaper Nation reported.
The clashes took place early in the morning in the Phu Ma Kua and Chong Ta Thao districts of Sisaket province in northeastern Thailand, on the border between the two countries. According to the newspaper, Thai troops managed to hold their positions and push Cambodian troops out of the area.
“Cambodian troops tried to counterattack, which resulted in many Cambodian casualties. Major General Duong Somneang was among the casualties, who was killed by artillery fire,” the publication wrote.
The newspaper notes that the deceased major general was the commander of the 7th Division of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, the first high-ranking military officer to be killed in the border fighting between the armed forces of the two countries that began on July 24.
