Iran summons Cyprus ambassador over interventionist stance
![]() 1210 Wednesday, 17 December, 2025, 12:41 The ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Tehran, Petros Nacouzis, was summoned to Iran’s Foreign Ministry following the inclusion of interventionist language regarding Iran’s territorial integrity in a joint statement issued by officials from Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates. During the meeting, Mohammad Ali-Bek, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director General for Persian Gulf Affairs at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, handed over a formal written note conveying the Islamic Republic of Iran’s strong protest. Ali-Bek stressed that the three Iranian islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb are an inseparable part of Iran’s territory, underlining that Iran’s historical, undisputed, and effective sovereignty over the islands is beyond doubt. He emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran categorically rejects any territorial claims against its sovereignty, describing such positions as a violation of the fundamental principle of respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity. |
