Vance: ‘No chance’ U.S. will be in drawn-out war in Middle East
![]() 1079 Friday, 27 February, 2026, 19:54 Vice President JD Vance said Thursday that while military strikes against Iran remain under consideration by President Donald Trump, there is “no chance” that such strikes would result in the United States becoming involved in a years-long, drawn-out war. “The idea that we’re going to be in a Middle Eastern war for years with no end in sight — there is no chance that will happen,” Vance told The Post in an interview as he returned to Washington from an event in Wisconsin on Thursday. “I think we all prefer the diplomatic option,” Vice President JD Vance said in an interview with The Washington Post. “But it really depends on what the Iranians do and what they say.” (Matt Rourke/AP) He further emphasized that he still sees himself as a “skeptic of foreign military interventions,” a position he believes continues to apply to President Trump as well. The comments come amid heightened tensions with Iran, as the Trump administration weighs potential military options — primarily targeting nuclear and long-range missile sites — following stalled nuclear talks and regional escalations. |
