Council of Europe adopts resolution on creating special tribunal for Russia
![]() 2522 Thursday, 27 June, 2024, 00:56 The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on Wednesday, June 26, adopted a resolution "Legal and human rights aspects of the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine" which discusses the creation of a special tribunal for Russia, according to the PACE press service and Telegram of People's Deputy Oleksiy Honcharenko. The resolution proposes the creation of a special tribunal for Russia based on the Council of Europe's agreement with Ukraine. In addition, the document states the need to use all instruments to hold accountable those responsible for war crimes. The resolution also calls for the PACE to recognize the Wagner Group as a terrorist organization. Adopting the resolution, the PACE stated that the special tribunal established by agreement between the Council of Europe and Ukraine is currently “the best feasible option, in terms of legal basis and political legitimacy” for prosecuting Russia's political and military leadership for the crime of aggression.
