Clashes erupt in Libya after killing of senior official

Fighting has broken out in the Libyan capital Tripoli, with gunfire heard in various parts of the city, Al-Mayadeen and Al-Awsat TV channels reported.
The clashes began on the evening of May 12 after the assassination of Abdel Ghani al-Kiqli, head of the Presidential Council's Stability Support Office. Tripoli's airport is closed, and residents of the city are urged to stay at home.
Six people have been killed in clashes in the Libyan capital Tripoli, the ambulance and emergency services told Lebanon 24.
According to TV channels, gunfire was heard in the Ain Zara and Salah ad-Din districts of the capital. According to Al-Wasat, a security guard was killed during a shootout at the headquarters of the 444th Brigade in Tripoli.
All emergency departments in the capital have been put on high alert.
Classes at Tripoli University have been canceled. The Ministry of Interior of the interim government of national unity has urged residents of the capital to remain in their homes for security reasons.
