Washington Post Begins Laying Off More Than 300 Journalists

The Post announced that it no longer have dedicated coverage of sports and is shuttering its bureaus in the Middle East, India, and Australia, among other cuts. In all more than 300 of the newsroom’s 800 employees were let go. The newsroom as recently as 2022 numbered more than 1,000 journalists; the cuts mean that the newsroom s smaller than when Jeff Bezos purchased the paper in 2013.
