Italy vows to increase economic pressure on Russia as talks stall
![]() 3910 Wednesday, 15 April, 2026, 22:22 The Italian government said that the country would step up economic pressure on Russia as part of its participation in the G7 and the European Union, until there is substantial progress in peace talks. According to ANSA, this was agreed during a meeting between Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on April 15. “Italy will continue to exert economic pressure within the G7 and the European Union on the Russian Federation, which, as before, shows no concrete signs of progress in negotiations, and continues to attack civilians and infrastructure” – Giorgia Meloni The prime minister also emphasized that Italy will continue to provide financial support to Ukraine in line with the EU Council’s decision, which is a fundamental tool for the country’s survival. At the same time, the financial crisis in Kyiv could deal an irreparable blow to Europe. |
