EU ambassadors approve final act for EUR 90 bln loan to Ukraine, 20th sanctions package against Russia
![]() 2411 Wednesday, 22 April, 2026, 16:14 Permanent representatives of the European Union member states approved the final legislative act – amendments to the regulation on the EU’s multiannual financial policy required to secure the EUR 90 billion loan to Ukraine – and the 20th sanctions package. A spokesperson for the Cyprus presidency of the EU told reporters about this on Wednesday. "Both the EUR 90 billion loan to Ukraine and the 20th sanctions package were included in the agenda for EU ambassadors today and approved at the level of the Committee of Permanent Representatives. The decisions will now undergo a written procedure for final approval by the Council. The written procedure is expected to be completed tomorrow afternoon," he said. Previously, both the legislative act regarding the regulation amendments, which requires a unanimous vote, and the 20th sanctions package were blocked by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. The situation changed following the elections in Hungary, in which he was defeated. |
