New PACE President Elected
1572 Monday, 24 January, 2022, 18:18 Dutch Senator Tiny Cox has become the new President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). This became known following the results of voting at the first meeting of the PACE winter session in Strasbourg on Monday, January 24. 164 members of the assembly voted for Cox. His only rival in these elections, the head of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE, people’s deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People party, Maria Mezentseva, received 80 votes. Teenie Cox is a member of the Dutch Socialist Party and head of the United European Left group in PACE. He succeeded the Belgian Senator Hendrik Dams. The head of PACE is elected for two years from among the representatives of the assembly with the right to re-election for another term. |
