Putin Weakness More Dangerous: EU
![]() 3608 Thursday, 29 June, 2023, 21:42 The European Union’s top diplomat has warned that a weakened Russian president, Vladimir Putin, could pose a ‘terrible threat’ after Wagner’s coup sparked the biggest political crisis in decades. Meanwhile, EU chief Ursula von der Leyen said that the uprising would cause “tremors” and that it was important to double support for Ukraine, whether it was military capabilities or financial aid. NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said during a lunch with EU leaders on Thursday that Wagner’s actions exposed Russia’s “political crisis and division”. Stoltenberg said that he expects a new announcement of military assistance to Ukraine at the NATO meeting in Vilnius next month.Borel recommended the ‘Ukrainian defense fund’, saying that Europe should support Ukraine for the long journey ‘during and after the war’. He said that the fund will support the modernization of the Ukrainian army and that the EU is committed to ensuring the security of the war-torn country. |
