"The opposition is engaged in street terrorism" - Erdogan
![]() 974 Saturday, 22 March, 2025, 23:14 The opposition has been trying to attack the police and engage in “street terrorism” for four days, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said. “For four days, they (the opposition) have done everything they can to disrupt the peace of the nation, to divide our people, to harm everyone, to attack our police officers who are only doing their duty, to intimidate our members of the judiciary investigating corruption, and to suppress the national will with street terrorism,” the Turkish president said. Earlier, Turkey’s main opposition Republican People’s Party called for renewed protests in support of the imprisoned Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu. The Istanbul governor’s office has decided to extend the ban on protests until March 27. Bans are also in effect in Ankara and Izmir. Protests in support of Imamoglu are gaining momentum despite the bans. Clashes with police have broken out again in Ankara. Protesters have begun to tear down iron barriers. |
