Mikhail Agasandyan: "The EAEU will apply legal mechanisms in case of violations by Armenia"

The EAEU has international legal instruments to protect the interests of its member states in the event of Armenia’s violation of the Union Treaty, said Mikhail Aghasandyan, Director of the First Department for the CIS Countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“If Yerevan takes steps that contradict the EAEU legislation, which, we hope, will not happen, in other words, significantly violates the EAEU Treaty, we have the necessary international legal mechanisms to protect the interests of other member states of the union,” Aghasandyan said.
According to him, Armenia has never publicly or during bilateral contacts announced its intention to withdraw from the Treaty, but on the contrary, actively participates in the negotiations within the framework of the union, which confirms its interest in the development of Eurasian integration.
Aghasandyan also expressed confidence that the law adopted in Armenia on the launch of the EU accession process does not yet imply actions that call into question the country’s membership in the EAEU.
