The Council of the European Union (EU) has adopted legal acts formally approving the decision to lift economic sanctions against Syria. 24 points were excluded from the list, including the restrictions against the country's Central Bank and companies operating in the oil and cotton industries. This was reported by Reuters.

On May 20, EU Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas announced that the EU countries agreed to lift economic sanctions against Syria. In her post on the social network X, she stated that "Europe is seeking to help the Syrian people build a new, inclusive and peaceful Syria."
