The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted a resolution on support for democracy in Ukraine on the second attempt, which reaffirms the legitimacy of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky until the end of martial law.

The document states that due to the war in Ukraine, it is impossible to organize free, transparent and democratic elections, and Russian President Vladimir Putin is personally responsible for this. The Rada stated that when a comprehensive, fair and stable peace is ensured, then the presidential elections in Ukraine will be announced.
The decision also states that, in accordance with Part 1 of Article 108 of the Constitution of Ukraine, Zelensky retains his legitimacy until the new president takes office.

268 deputies voted for the bill.

Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada failed to adopt a resolution "On support for democracy in Ukraine in the context of Russian aggression."

272 deputies were present during the voting, of which 54 did not vote. 218 deputies supported the resolution. At least 226 votes were needed to approve the resolution.
