Germany imposes further entry bans on senior Georgian officials
![]() 556 Tuesday, 25 March, 2025, 11:21 Germany has imposed further entry bans on senior Georgian officials "responsible for the crackdown," the German Foreign Ministry wrote on the social platform X. “For nearly 3 months, the people of Georgia have been protesting in favour of a future in the EU and against the course of the Georgian leadership. They continue to face intimidation, arrests and violence. Today, Germany imposed further entry bans on Georgian officials responsible for the crackdown”, reads the statement of the Ministry. In the spring of 2024, the Georgian parliament adopted the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence, which applies to non-profit organizations and media outlets that receive more than 20% of their funding from abroad. The adopted law caused mass protests in Georgia, and the opposition called it pro-Russian. Earlier in 2024, the Prime Minister of the republic, Irakli Kobakhidze, announced that Georgia was postponing the start of negotiations on joining the European Union until the end of 2028. |
