Merz and Trump agree to cooperate on Ukraine

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and US President Donald Trump agreed in a telephone conversation to work closely to end the conflict in Ukraine, German government spokesman Stefan Cornelius said.
"President Trump and German Chancellor Merz agreed to work closely to end the conflict in Ukraine.... Trump said he would strongly support Germany's efforts with France, the UK, Poland and other European partners to achieve a lasting peace," the statement said.
"At the same time, President Trump and German Chancellor Merz agreed that trade differences must be resolved as soon as possible," the statement said.
Trump congratulated Merz on taking office as chancellor, and they agreed to closely exchange views and announced their intention to make mutual visits to the US and Germany.
