Monitoring of endangered monuments in Aragatsotn Marz

The employees of the “Monuments Preservation Department” of the “Protection Service” SNCO and the Historical Environment Preservation Regional Service (HEP) of Aragatsotn carried out monitoring of a number of endangered monuments in the territory of the region.

During the joint visit there were studies in particular:
The Church Complex Katoghike in Aruch dating back to the V-VII cc. St. Grigor Church of the complex is the largest among the early medieval domed hall churches. The monument was last renovated in the 1950-the 60s however, separate parts are now damaged.
The structures of the church complex Katoghike in Talin, of which stand out are the cruciform, three-nave domed basilica – the Katoghike Church with its unique circular mosaic masonry in the center of the hall.
The half-ruined three-nave caravanserais of Aruch and Tallin. The latter is considered to be the largest caravanserai in Armenia.

The dilapidated and weathered khachkar (cross-stone) which was erected in village Kosh in 1195 in honor of the liberation of the Aragatsotn region from the Seljuks.
St Stepanos Church, standing high on the slope of a gorge 500 meters to the north-east of the settlement Kosh. The northern and western walls of the church are fortified in the rocks.
Also the condition of St Astvatsatsin Church in Talin, the ruined chapel of Kosh, the chapel “Kapuyt Khach” (Blue Cross) and the reservoir.
The specialists of the SNCO visited as well monuments in the territory of the settlement of Kosh where several offences against monuments have been recently registered.
