Martakert military clashes began on March 4, 2008

On March 4 Martakert military confrontations started shortly after presidential election. It was the strongest battle between Artsakh and Azerbaijan since the 1994 ceasefire. Azerbaijan tries to use the declared state of emergency in Armenia attacking on the Artsakh forces. On the same day, the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that Azerbaijan is ready to take back the liberated lands by forces and buy military supplies and bullets.

Military confrontation

On March 4 early in the morning Azerbaijani armed forces attacked Defense Army's combat positions near the village Levonarkh in Martakert. The attackers managed to capture the primary position of the Artsakh Armed Forces for a short period of time. But in few hours the Defense Army subjugated them back. Azerbaijanis fled leaving eight corpses and ammunition. Only two people were injured by Armenians. Azerbaijan’s side reported only four killed soldier names, claiming that the Armenian side gave 12 victims. According to official information, Azerbaijan used artillery during this military confrontation. The Defence Army also used artillery taking back their positions.
